Notice of Intended Marriage

It is a legal requirement that you complete a Notice of Intended Marriage(NOIM) and give it to your Celebrant at least one month and one day before your wedding day.

If you complete this prior to meeting with your Celebrant, please do not sign it as your signatures must be witnessed by the Celebrant or other authorised person.Alternatively, you and the Celebrant can complete the form together at your first meeting when the Celebrant will witness your signatures, and lodge the document with the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages within 14 days of the ceremony taking place.Whichever way you decide to do it,  The Celebrantwill need to see :-

  • Original birth certificates or full copies for Australian nationals.  (Copies may be obtained from Department of Births, Deaths & Marriages ( www.justice.qld.gov.au ))
  • Birth certificate or passport for those born overseas. (Copies may be obtained from the relevant embassies.)
  • If you are a widow or widower you will need to produce the Death certificate of spouse. (A copy may be obtained from Department of Births, Deaths & Marriages.)
  • If you are divorced you will need to produce the Decree Absolute of divorce or a Certificate of Divorce. (Copies may be obtained from the Family Court of Australia. (www.familycourt.gov.au))

 Note:   Marriage of any person under the age of 18 years requires an order from a judge or magistrate.
